The Brief: The flamboyant star of Netflix's Tiger King, Joe Exotic is being shared all over social media in many different memes because of his eccentric life and memorable scenes in the true-crime documentary.
DEEP DIVE
The most outlandish star of Netflix’s Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem, and Madness, Joe Exotic is being turned into a meme online while people make humorous references to the documentary that released March 20th.
The true-crime docuseries is a tell-all between the sensational big cat caretakers – Joe Exotic, Carole Baskin, and Doc Antle. Each of the very unconventional cast members shares their stories of what it is like to own many big cats in captivity. While the chronicles of their own perspectives take many turns and twists that seem implausible, all of the events that took place had eye-witnesses and guest interviews to confirm the validity of the odd circumstances.
At the heart of it all, Joe Exotic (formerly known as Joseph Maldonado-Passage) remains at the epicenter of trouble and mystery within the entire Netflix documentary. Going from extremely closeted to outwardly accepting his gay sexuality, Joe Exotic had two husbands at once. John Finlay and Travis Maldonado were a part of Joe Exotic’s polyamorous marriage until Travis’s death in 2017.
The man, himself, has cultivated a following like no other as he navigates his way around the constant hate he receives from Carole Baskin. Their rivalry ties the Tiger King in a pretty bow that has appealed to many Americans nationwide and has garnered the most attention of Netflix’s viewers.
Audience members of the Tiger King series have already developed many memes on Twitter and Instagram of Joe Exotic and are continuing to do so as more and more people tune in for the unusually quirky narrative.
