The latter meaning became a popular term in July 10, 2020 after Jada Pinkett-Smith used it to define her relationship with rapper August Alsina while separated from her husband Will Smith on her talk show Red Table Talk.
“We decided that we were going to separate for a period of time and you go figure out how to make yourself happy and I’ll figure out how to make myself happy,” Will said on the show, before Jada replied, “From there, as time went on, I got into a different kind of entanglement with August.”
The word quickly became the focus of internet culture, inspiring memes and songs.
