On May 20, 2020, Twitter started testing a feature that allows users to limit who can reply to their tweets. This immediately inspired many people to create “reply if” and “reply to this tweet” memes.

Many “reply if” memes offer a controversial opinion, inviting people to argue in the non-existent replies if they disagree. In another popular “reply to this tweet” memes, people teasingly offer a reward to those who reply to the tweet, but then don’t let anyone reply.
