Thanos is large, muscular, wrinkly, and purple. His goal is to collect rings that will allow him to destroy half of all the life in the universe. He’s the star of a number of memes, which play off everything from his evilness to his purple hue to his obsession with the infinity stones. Thanos’s best-known quotes include “the end is near,” “the hardest choices require the strongest wills,” and “reality can be whatever I want.”
The phrase “Thanos did nothing wrong” is a meme and troll argument based on the intentionally inflammatory and blatantly false phrase “Hitler did nothing wrong.” There is a pro-Thanos subreddit with over half a million followers called Thanos Did Nothing Wrong, featuring mostly Avengers-themed memes.
When Will Smith snapped his fingers in the YouTube Rewind video, many Reddit users and meme-makers drew parallels between Smith snapping his fingers to “rewind” YouTube, and Thanos snapping his fingers to destroy half of all life in the universe.
