Directed by the Duffer brothers, Netflix‘s Stranger Things mixes sci-fi and fantasy elements in a scary and suspenseful series. Stars include actors Winona Ryder, David Harbour, and Millie Bobbie Brown. Most of the main characters are children and teenagers ranging from around age 12 to 18. Life in the town of Hawkins starts getting strange after a young boy mysteriously disappears, supernatural elements begin to occur, a girl with psychokinetic powers suddenly appears, and the government seems to be performing secret experiments.

The show is somewhat dark with portrayals of violence, blood, and gore, most of which are brief. Both adults and kids use various curse words with frequency. Dark themes include government corruption, kidnapping, and depression. There are some sexual elements including a heavy make-out scene in which a girl removes her shirt. Both adult and underage characters drink and smoke cigarettes.

Officially rated TV-14, Common Sense Media recommends Stranger Things for teens and adults ages 14 and older due to its somewhat adult themes and scary elements.
