As the 50th Earth Day is taking place during a global pandemic, activities, events, and demonstrations will be taking place online this year. Just because people aren’t able to gather IRL doesn’t mean that they can’t come together via the internet and social media to celebrate Earth Day and promote climate activism. Here’s a list of some online events for Earth Day: April 22, 2020.

Earth Day Live

This three-day digital event includes live streams from April 22-24 featuring activists, artists, musicians, politicians, and organizers. Public figures including Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Al Gore, Mark Ruffalo, and Questlove will be participating.

#ArtForEarth

The World Wildlife Fund is encouraging people to share nature and Earth-related art on social media with the hashtag #ArtForEarth. Daily artistic prompts for the week of Earth Day provide participants with inspiration for their creative projects. A similar hashtag #CreateArtForEarth is led by Greenpeace to invite artists to create art that addresses the climate crisis and calls for action.

#EarthDayAtHome

NASA has compiled a set of educational and entertaining Earth Day activities that can be done virtually from home.

Greta Thunberg and Johan Rockström Digital Conversation

Climate activist Greta Thunberg and Earth Sciences professor Johan Rockström will be participating in a digital conversation organized by the Nobel Prize Museum at noon CEST on April 22.

Virtual National Parks

Explore the beauty and wonder of nature in America’s National Parks from your own home. The NPS website offers virtual tours, webcams, and photo galleries so you can “visit” National Parks from the safety of your own home.

Climate Change – The Facts

Hosted by Sir David Attenborough, the documentary Climate Change- The Facts will be airing on PBS and streaming online on Earth Day.
