The Brief: No-Shave November, also known as Movember is when men grow out beards for the month of November to raise awareness about men's health issues.

Officially, No-Shave November is a movement in which men forgo shaving or facial hair grooming. They are then supposed to donate the money they would’ve spent on razors and other grooming expenses to cancer and health-related nonprofit organizations.

Similarly, Movember is a movement to raise awareness and raise money about men’s health issues including cancer and suicide. Men participate by growing out their mustaches in November.

There is overlap between Movember and No-Shave November, but it almost always involves growing out facial hair. The event has become something of a meme online with men joking about how manly, scruffy, or lumberjack-esque they end up looking.

On social media, the hashtags #NoShaveNovemeber and #Movember are meant to raise awareness about this movement.
