This year, on October 11, International Day of the Girl is being celebrated worldwide. International Day of the Girl, or as it’s known in some countries, International Day of the Girl Child is dedicated to empowering, supporting, and speaking up for girls around the world. In 2012, the UN designated October 11th as a day that “aims to highlight and address the needs and challenges girls face, while promoting girls’ empowerment and the fulfillment of their human rights.”

Day Of The Girl 2019

It’s the 25-year anniversary of the Beijing for the World Conference on Women, which led to the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action and the passage of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, which specifically laid out specific policies for the empowerment of women and girls. The theme for this year’s International Day of the Girl is “GirlForce: unscripted and unstoppable,” wherein the accomplishments and achievements of girls in the past 25 years will be highlighted and celebrated.

#MarchForSisterhood#DayOfTheGirl

The March For Sisterhood is an all-digital campaign by the nonprofit organization Girls Who Code to advocate for girls around the world to have their voices heard and bring change to their communities. Girls Who Code sponsored the TikTok hashtags #DayOfTheGirl and #MarchForSisterhood to support the empowerment of girls, particularly in STEM fields.

Care Bears

Several prominent female celebrities and artists have designed one-of-a-kind vinyl Care Bears in honor of International Day of the Girl. These bears will be auctioned on eBay with proceeds going to the humanitarian organization CARE.
