How hard did aging hit you? In order to participate in the “how hard did aging hit you challenge,” also known as the “ten-year challenge,” all you have to do is post two pictures side by side: one from the past and one from the present. The purpose of this challenge is to show off glow ups and to celebrate personal growth and transformation. Pictures usually represent physical changes to one’s appearance, but captions can dive deeper into spiritual, mental, and professional growth. The How Hard Did Aging Hit You challenge is a way for people to look positively at aging and growing up, noting what they’ve learned as the years go by.

This trend is particularly popular on Instagram but has spread to other social media sites as well including Twitter and Facebook. Posts for the ten-year challenge follow a specific format of a picture from 2009 on the left and one from 2019 on the right to represent the change that’s occurred over a decade. Other renditions depict different spans of time. Similar to the #transformationtuesday hashtag, this challenge is not a new concept, but it is a particularly popular and viral version.

2009: Premed/engineering college student with lots of stress and anxiety issues. Had a very unhealthy relationship with food. Low self-esteem. Obsessed with getting into med school. Didn’t have many friends because all free time was spent studying/working. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 2019: Attending physician with a passion for wellness. Anxiety-free. Deals with stress in a healthier way. Improved self-confidence. Fulfilled with taking care of patients. Part of an amazing social media community with incredible and supportive friends in real-life too. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ A lot of growth can happen in 10 years, and I still have lots of growing to do. If I could go back in time, I’d say THANK YOU to that girl on the left for overcoming all the struggles/setbacks that happened over the last decade. When things get tough and you feel like giving up, just remember that your future self will be so grateful for your perseverance. – – Happy Monday, loves❤️❤️ Let’s see how far we go in the next 10 years and beyond! #HowHardDidAgingHitYouChallenge – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – #howdidiagechallenge #glowupchallenge #transformation #10yearslater #weightloss #healthylifestyle #fitness #loveyourbody #healthy #workout #beforeandafter #transformationtuesday #glowup #fitnessmotivation #fitnessjourney #medicine #residency #internalmedicine #doctor #medlife #physician #MD #medicalschool #medschool #residencylife #happy #confidence #innerhappiness

Humorous Takes On The Challenge

Some people have used this challenge as a joke format, poking fun at how time has or hasn’t affected them.

This challenge is effing stupid because obviously nursing very rapidly gave me frown lines & permanent bags under my eyes & aged my soul like 75 years but also Benjamin Buttoned my sense of humor back down to a 13 year old boy so TBH you can take your #howharddidaginghityouchallenge & shove it. Also, if anyone needs some hard candies or a few pennies, help yourself in my purse. 😩🤷🏼‍♀️💉👵🏻 ▫️ ▫️ 💉 ▫️ ❤️ ▫️ 💊 #nurselife #nursesofinstagram #icunurse #scrublife #nursehumor #nurseproblems #writersofinstagram #blogger #studentnurse #nursingschool #nursingstudent #nursesonja #nursesdayoff #icuproblems #nurse #babeswhohustle #nursesdoitbetter #ohshitialmostkilledyou #hospitallife #medicine #residentlife #nurseprobs #gradschool #womeninmedicine #10yearchallenge
