The Pattern Astrology App

The Pattern is a free mobile application that provides users with personalized astrological readings based on their natal chart. The app analyzes users’ “personal patterns,” to help them gain insight into their personality traits, emotions, and life paths.

Apple: The App Store

The Pattern includes a social media component so that users can explore their compatibility and relationships with friends and romantic partners. Users have the opportunity to set their profiles to private so that other users cannot view the personal reading in their profile. However, all users can create compatibility reports about themselves and another user, regardless of the privacy settings on someone’s profile.

As with many free applications, The Pattern uses cookies and can access personal information based on app usage and data that users provide. According to its privacy policy, The Pattern collects a variety of personal information but “is not and will not be in the business of selling your information.” It also states that they may share personal information in a variety of circumstances without notifying users. Because The Pattern is a highly personal app, some users and potential users may have qualms with downloading an app that employs such policies.

The Pattern vs. Co-Star

The Pattern and Co-Star are two popular astrology apps known for their ability to roast users with hyper-specific advice and callouts. Generally, The Pattern puts its readings more into everyday language geared towards those who aren’t already familiar with astrology. By avoiding more technical language and applying astrological information to specific situations, The Pattern can be more relatable for astrology novices, while Co-Star may be the preferred app of astrology stans.

Channing Tatum’s Reaction

On July 12, 2019, actor Channing Tatum posted a video to his social media accounts with the caption “Yo anybody know of this s**t and can explain it to me! Cause WTF!” In the video, Channing describes his experience using The Pattern, asking “how do you know what you know about me, Pattern?”

He goes on to talk about how his Pattern notification used “the exact words” that were brought up in his most recent therapy session. After jokingly suggesting that The Pattern’s accuracy may be a result of the app “listening” to him, he asks that “Pattern people” contact him to discuss this.

Tatum did indeed have a conversation with The Pattern’s creator and shared his experience in yet another video posted to his social media:

After Channing Tatum posted his original video and it went viral, there were many social media posts about how a sudden influx of downloads may have caused the app to temporarily crash.

The Pattern Memes

Many of these memes point to how The Pattern is eerily accurate when it comes to its readings. Others reference how Channing Tatum drew them to the app or how it crashed as a result.

Like Co-Star, The Pattern also posts memes on its social media accounts.
