The Brief: Nearly half a million people have signed up for a Facebook event to "storm Area 51" in hopes of seeing "them aliens," inspiring a rush of memes related to the possibility of such an event.

DEEP DIVE
Storm Area 51, They Can’t Stop All of Us
Area 51 memes have been going viral ever since a Facebook event titled “Storm Area 51, They Can’t Stop All Of Us” started racking up RSVP’s. At the time of writing, over 450,000 people have RSVP’d yes to the ‘event,’ which is set to take place on September 20, 2019, at the highly classified U.S. Air Force facility.
Although it is possible that some people will, indeed attempt to “storm” Area 51 in September, the overall tone of the event is ironic and riddled with meme humor, indicating that it’s a joke to many if not most of the RSVP’s.
One of the event’s hosts is a Facebook meme page called “S**tpostibg cause im in shambles,” and the event’s page is filled with memes related to the proposed plot to storm Area 51.
The event’s description reads:
“We will all meet up at the Area 51 Alien Center tourist attraction and coordinate our entry. If we naruto run, we can move faster than their bullets. Lets see them aliens.”
“Naruto run” is a reference to the anime series Naruto in which the main character runs in a unique and particularly dramatic fashion.
Memes Galore
In addition to the memes on the Storm Area 51 event page, people are ‘storming’ the internet with image macros and jokes about what would happen if hundreds of thousands of people really did attempt to illegally enter Area 51 all at once. Some memes are about “stealing” or “rescuing” aliens and adopting them as pets. Other memes feature dark jokes about how the United States military would intervene in such an attempt.
