The Brief: People are using the StarByFace website and app to show then which celebrities they look like, and then sharing the results on Twitter.

DEEP DIVE
Twitter users are showing off the results of who their “celebrity parents” would be based on the website and app StarByFace. This app lets people upload a photo of themselves and provides look-alike celebrities, pairing a man and woman to be their “mother” and “father.”
StarByFace follows other popular facial recognition and lookalike apps and trends such as FaceApp and baby Snapchat filters. ย This particular site had a moment in 2020 on Twitter and is reemerging in late February 2021.
According to their privacy policy, StarByFace does not store uploaded photos and deletes them after they’ve been used for recognition. They also don’t collect personal data other than website usage data.
