The Brief: The #RhymePOV TikTok trend has people acting as different characters and stereotypes through rhymes set to a beat.
The internationally popular #RhymePOV TikTok trend has creators reciting cheesy rap anthems to the beat in the song “Star Student” by the YFM Boys. These POV acting videos often portray niche stereotypes or scenarios like the “mean weird Tumblr girl” or “positive art girl,” usually showing someone dishing out insults as if it were a diss track. Skits also draw from more common situations like a teacher trying to calm down a rowdy class or Among Us players discussing who the impostor is.
#RhymePOV TikTok videos often sound like cheesy, forced raps, as people combine rhyming lines with a beat, usually with a monotone voice. This trend rose in popularity in late September and early October and was featured on TikTok’s Discover page. At the time of writing, there are over 17,900 videos on TikTok that use the “Star Student” beat, and videos associated with the hashtag #RhymePOV have been viewed over 200 million times on the app.
