The Brief: As September 20th approaches, memes speculate about what will actually happen at Area 51 where some people claim they will break in to "see them aliens."
Over 2 million people have signed up to a Facebook event to “storm Area 51” on September 20th. The concept of an Area 51 raid is one of the most prominent memes of the past year, but it’s become more than a mere inside joke on the internet.
An Area 51-inspired music festival called Alienstock set to take place on the weekend of the 20th in Rachel, Nevada has been canceled. After an array of issues including concerns of a “possible humanitarian disaster” came up, its creator announced its cancelation as that they will not “tolerate any involvement in a FYREFEST 2.0.” Anyone looking to attend an Area 51-themed party is welcome at an Area 51 Celebration Party on September 19th at the Downtown Las Vegas Event Center.
Two Dutch YouTubers: Govert Sweep and Ties Granzier and were arrested over a week before the 20th after attempting to enter Area 51. In July, the United States Air Force warned people not to enter the area, and a spokeswoman told the Washington Post that the Air Force is “ready to protect America and its assets”.
While we hope no one will actually attempt the widely-memed “Naruto run” into Area 51 or “clap alien cheeks” on September 20th, there’s no doubt that the memes will keep on rolling.

What’s In Area 51?
Many Area 51 memes speculate about the near-mythical things that may be found in this top-secret area. Will September 20th be the day we finally find a toothpaste that 10/10 dentists recommend or a hand sanitizer that kills 100% of germs and bacteria?
