GIFs of dancing cockroaches can be found all over Reddit from the Dank Memes subreddit to communities specifically dedicated to cockroach memes. These GIFs come from a YouTube video of a dancing, scatting cockroach, which, according to Know Your Meme, was created in 2015 and became popular in 2019.
In June 2020, Redditors started changing their profile pictures to and posting images of the dancing cockroach, often paired with the word bröthër with added accent marks and umlauts. This is part of a meme-led movement to spam the internet with dancing cockroaches using tactics reminiscent of the TikTok Cult Wars.
