The Brief: Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson broke up, according to TMZ.
Singer Ariana Grande and comedian Pete Davidson‘s highly publicized relationship and engagement has ended. The celebrity couple was the subject of memes, and their relationship even popularized some slang terms. The relationship reportedly started in May and their engagement was publicly announced on June 11, 2018. Ariana Grande’s most recent album, sweetener has a track on it named “pete davidson.”
On October 14, 2018, TMZ announced that Ariana and Pete had broken up. According to TMZ’s sources, both Grande and Davidson agreed that “it simply was not the right time for their relationship to take off.” The sources also said that they “still have love for each other, but things are over romantically.”
In the past several weeks, there had been speculation about their breakup, after Davidson made several offensive jokes about Grande and he covered his tattoo that references her album, Dangerous Woman.
Before the breakup went public, Pete deleted his Instagram account. Ariana has remained active on social media. Last week, she set up an Instagram account for her pet pig: @realpiggysmallz, which has accrued over 460,000 followers. No posts have been made from the account as of yet.
On Twitter, news of the breakup has elicited mixed reactions online including jokes, lamentation, and celebration.
