The “Always Buckle Up, Psh Yolo” trend on TikTok is marked by creators using audio from South Side High School’s PSA about seat belt safety paired with images of celebrities. In the PSA, three students head to the mall, but one of them becomes seriously injured after she says “Psh Yolo” and doesn’t put on a seat belt. There are currently 2440 videos linked to the audio.
TikTokers usually choose a controversial celebrity to wind up in the hospital.
The first “Always Buckle Up, Psh Yolo” TikTok video was shared on June 2. Creator @onedirectionskevin used the audio with images of former One Direction members: Zayn Malik, Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson. The band went their separate ways in after member Zayn Malik decided to become an independent artist in March 2015. In the TikTok video, Malik doesn’t buckle his seat belt and subsequently flies through the fictitious windshield. The video became super popular, accruing over 3 million views and 889,000 likes.
Another popular take features former Fifth Harmony members. The group officially split in March 2018. this came after Cabello split from the group in December 2016. In the video, Cabello’s image is winds up in the hospital.
There is a version featuring former Destiny’s Child members Beyoncé, Kelly Rowland, Michelle Williams, and Beyonce’s sister Solange. Unfortunately for the Bey Hive, Beyoncé winds up in the hospital.
