League of Legends, abbreviated LoL, is a multiplayer online arena video game. The strategy-based game involves players taking the role of “summoners” who control “champions” within the game. Teams of human or computer controlled champions compete to destroy the other team’s “nexus,” a protected virtual base structure.

Developed and published by Riot Games, League of Legends operates on a freemium model in which basic gameplay is free and additional features available with the purchase of a premium version.

LoL has a large and widespread fandom online .Professional leagues compete in-person at the League Champion Series organized by Riot Games.
