The trend emerged in May 2020 and began growing in popularity in mid-late June 2020. These videos are intended to be humorous, as the viewer is able to see the significant other’s reaction, which usually consists of them trying to hide a mischievous smile while in public.
This trend is known as the “Dirty Text Challenge” and these videos are linked to the hashtag #DirtyText. At the time of publication, it has over accrued over 139 million views.
