The Brief: TikTokers are changing their profile pictures to represent different outcomes in the #MyPFP trend.

DEEP DIVE
In the #MyPFP trend on TikTok, people are sharing a set of photos to indicate different possible outcomes of a scenario. They then change their profile picture to show how things turned out. Creators are using the trend to tell viewers how they did on school assignments, how things went after they asked their crush out, and more. The pictures in question are usually silly and weird, including random meme characters and cursed photo vibes.
These videos are typically paired with a sound that’s labeled as “Waltz of the Meatball Man” by Gooseworx. Over 24,000 videos using this sound have been posted on the app. In late October, as this trend rose in popularity, TikTok featured it on the Discover page with the hashtag #MyPFP (PFP stands for profile picture) and the caption “Depending on how it goes, which profile picture will you be using?” According to TikTok, videos associated with the trend have been viewed over 65 million times.
