The Brief: Jackie James, aka, @Fatraco0n, is a teen activist on TikTok. She uses her platform to support people of color and combat white supremacy.
Content creator and TikToker Jackie James, also known as, @fatraco0n is a teen activist built up her massive TikTok account by empowering Black people and other people of color, while also dismantling white supremacy. She is 1.1 million followers strong and counting. She draws a large audience due to her quick and meaningful discussions around race relations set to trending music.
One of her most popular TikTok videos was uploaded after peaceful protests over the death of George Floyd, an unarmed Black man, turned violent, with opportunists using this time to loot stores.
In her video, she challenged those who condemn the protests by recounting history. “You want to get mad at people for looting, but you won’t tell us where you get those artifacts for your museums,” James started. “You want to get mad at us for rioting, but you literally made a professional football player lose his job for kneeling. Y’all want to tell us not to destroy public property, but you keep telling me about the Boston Tea Party every year at school.”
The video received over 4 million views and 1.5 million likes, within four days of posting.
James’ call to action protest video featured her showcasing her footwear, saying, “SPORT! Everybody keeps talking about a revolution and my shoes are strapped. I’m ready to go. Pick it up. We’re going to miss the bus.” That audio was remixed with Doja Cat’s “Cybersex” by fan (@shhhhitscam) and is currently being used across TikTok as a call to action for other teens.
