Borat is a 2006 mockumentary film produced by and starring comedian Sacha Baron Cohen in which a satirical character from Kazakhstan named Borat Sagdiyev travels the U.S., conducting interviews with unassuming individuals. Borat provides a condemning view of American life during the George W. Bush administration, drawing out examples of racism, xenophobia, homophobia and more with his widely offensive, outspoken character.

The film popularized the “not joke” and the phrase “very nice,” usually uttered in imitation of Baron Cohen’s pseudo-Kazakh accent.
