Taylor Swift’s Pride Month single “You Need To Calm Down” and accompanying music video received mixed reviewsย and is at the center of one of the summer’s most viral TikTok memes.

The concept behind the meme is simple. It uses the following lines to convey a situation in which someone is being too loud and disruptive:

“So oh-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh
You need to calm down, you’re being too loud”

TikTokers label objects and characters in the scenes of these sketches to illustrate someone who is being loud saying “oh-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh” and then being chastised by someone who says “you need to calm down, you’re being too loud.” This format follows those of many other TikTok videos in its classic lip-synching style.

On TikTok the hashtag #CalmDown has been viewed over 250 million times and “You Need To Calm Down” has been featured in over 250,000 videos.
