The Brief: To celebrate America's Independence Day on Thursday July 4th, we've rounded up some hilarious memes roasting cookouts, kickbacks, and the country's founding fathers.

DEEP DIVE
July is here and that can only mean one thing: the 4th of July memes are skyrocketing across social media. Every year, Americans celebrate Independence Day alongside friends, fam, and if they’re lucky, a pool.
These memes both celebrate and roast the various traditions associated with the national holiday, from what we wear to the food we grill.
July, welcome back you sexy beast. Bring on the Freedom, Fireworks and Fourth of July. Merica.

America vs. Great Britain
Several 4th of July memes capitalize on the history of Independence Day.
For anyone in need of a brief U.S. History refresher (Sis, haven’t you seen Hamilton?), July 4th marks the day our country’s founding fathers signed the Declaration of Independence, thus declaring the United States of America independent of British rule. The Declaration was signed on July 4th, 1776, making 2019 the 243rd year of American Independence.
The majority of these memes tend to roast or drag Great Britain.
More than one features America’s first president, George Washington.
‘Murica FTW.
Several memes throwback to the Boston Tea Party. Shots fired, Britain.
Meanwhile, Britain be like…
The Other Independence Day
It’s no surprise that several Instagrammers have shared posts alluding to the film, Independence Day.
In the 1996 film, Will Smith, Jeff Goldblum, and more fight to defend Earth from a total alien annihilation which just so happens to take place over the Fourth of July weekend.
Thanks, Will Smith.
Baby, You’re a Firework
After the sun goes down and the mosquitoes come out, Americans have been known to turn their focus to the sky for some showstopping 4th of July fireworks.
Apparently, the history of fireworks in America is almost as old the country itself. The first 4th of July fireworks date back to the nation’s first Independence Day celebration, held in Philadelphia on July 4, 1777.

Depending on where someone lives, fireworks could be cause for alarm.
This meme’s for all the confused Cancers…
While this one goes out to all the single AF folks looking for love this 4th of July. Fingers crossed for this Twitter user:
I really want a kiss under the fireworks this fourth of July, that's it.. that's the tweet

Then again, fireworks seem to be the last thing on some people’s minds. They’ve got more important things to celebrate, like Season 3 of Stranger Things.
Lol I’m not coming out of my house on the Fourth of July. #StrangerThings3Premiere

Finally, this friendly reminder, because it really do be like that sometimes.
Just a friendly 4th of July reminder that absolutely no one is going to watch the video of fireworks you recorded on your phone

Barbeque/Cookout Memes
Whether you call it a “barbeque” or “cookout”, what it all boils down to is some delicious, grilled meat amongst friends. In the simplest terms, BBQ is to July 4th as Turkey is to Thanksgiving.

Barbequing on the the 4th of July is another American tradition. In fact, July 4th has officially been ranked as the nation’s most popular outdoor cooking holiday.
Many barbeque or food related memes poke fun at the amount of food the average American will consume on July 4th.
the only fourth of july plans I have is finding and eating bbq!!!! i'm tired of rooftops with no actual food!! the blasphemy!!!

Several memes also roast (lol) the types of food most commonly associated with Independence Day cookouts such as hot dogs, potato salad, and corn.

Corn memes began trending on Reddit recently, a side-effect of the start to July.
Come down in here and eat some corn or we will sacrifice your new born.AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA from dankmemes
Politically Correct Pick-Up Lines
4th of July or Valentine’s Day? Whoever said declaring the country’s independence isn’t romantic, clearly hasn’t seen these hilarious memes.
Something tells us that even Hamilton couldn’t have predicted this one.
baby ur a firework. haha that’s just a line from that katy perry song. i actually think it’s called firework lol. it’s almost the 4th of july too. u got any plans
— James (@CaucasianJames) July 1, 2019
Big Mood, America.
Then again, according to this Instagrammer, the Declaration of Independence might as well have been a break up letter.
Respect, Responsibility, & Safety
In the midst of the patriotic fun, it’s important to remember some basic safety measures. To start with, anyone consuming alcohol on the 4th should make alternative rideshare arrangements. Driving while under the influence is dangerous to yourself and others.

Where fireworks, firecrackers, and sparklers are concerned, we encourage everyone to be both careful and conscientious. Loud noises have been known to startle and traumatize both pets and people.
Just stop it. Fireworks should end. #ClimateChange #4thofJuly pic.twitter.com/Mj04ooA8Df

Since the 4th is coming up, remember to keep your pets safe. Secure your fences, refill on anxiety meds, or board your fur babies. Fourth of July is scary for most of our canine companions.

IF YOU SET OFF FIREWORKS FOR 2 WEEKS BEFORE 4TH OF JULY:
Wherever you live, there are likely many people, like veterans & survivors of violence, w/ EXTREME PTSD that's triggered by explosions. The 4th itself they can plan for; your actions, they cannot. Be kind & lay off some.
— Jill "I Stand with the WGA" Weinberger (@jillybobww) July 1, 2019
Lastly, it’s important to remember that not every American may choose to celebrate the 4th of July. This does not mean that they hate their country, but rather that they are exercising their rights to organize and protest, rights afforded to them by the Declaration of Independence.
Respect their choice.
people asking for “straight pride” and “white pride” now,,,,calm down,,,the 4th of july is literally in 3 days
