Every April 30, the viral “It’s Gonna Be May” meme emerges to celebrate Justin Timberlake and *NSYNC’s contribution to the music industry. The meme is comprised of a line from the boy band’s popular hit “It’s Gonna Be Me.” However, 2021 is a little different. Some internet users are replacing the Justin Timberlake “It’s Gonna Be May” memes with versions of Britney Spears and other celebrities.

This comes after fans became more critical of Timberlake following the release of the New York Times documentary Framing Britney Spears. The public called him out for his mistreatment of his former girlfriend (Spears) and Janet Jackson following the 2004 Super Bowl wardrobe malfunction controversy. On Feb. 12, he took to Instagram to issue an apology. Regardless, many fans are still critical of Timberlake and the new “It’s Gonna Be May” memes are proof.

This new spin features a snap of Spears in her “Oops!… I Did It Again” music video.

Spears’ “Me Against The Music” featuring Madonna got the meme treatment, too.

Ah, *NSYNC’s nemesis: Backstreet Boys.

This one replaces Timberlake with his band mate JC Chasez.

There are movie references, too. Here is Jennifer Hudson in Dream Girls.
