The Brief: Dune 2020 trailer memes react to the upcoming adaptation of Frank Herbert's sci-fi novel Dune.

DEEP DIVE
The Dune 2020 trailer is here and so are memes about it. On September 9, the trailer for director Denis Villeneuve’s movie Dune, based on the book by Frank Herbert, dropped. Dune stars include Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, and Jason Momoa. The Warner Bros movie is set to be released in December 2020. Dune memes excitedly anticipate the movie, fawn over its stars, and joke about the hype around it.

On Twitter, many people are posting images that aren’t from the trailer with captions like “the Dune trailer looks lit,” joking that it resembles other movies and pop culture moments.

Timothée Chalamet is Dune‘s star, and his stans have a lot to say about the trailer (mostly that they love him).

Fans of David Lynch’s 1984 adaptation of Dune are taking this as an opportunity to post their favorite moments and memes from that version, noting that the 2020 trailer has far too few pugs in it.
My biggest complaint about the new Dune Trailer? Not enough Pugs. pic.twitter.com/f5hTpX7DUa

No spoilers, but people are very pumped about the giant worm in Dune, which is featured in the trailer.
In the cinema watching Dune, chanting “BIG WORM! BIG WORM!” until the big worm appears, then immediately standing up and leaving once I’ve seen the big worm

if there’s a movie with timothee chalamet zendaya and a giant worm i’m going to see it
— James (@CaucasianJames) September 9, 2020
The worm is reminiscent of other worms from cinema history including the one in Tremors and the one in SpongeBob…
