The Brief: The Dolly Parton Challenge invites people to share memes of the different photos that one might post on LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, and Tinder.
By starting the Dolly Parton Challenge, 74-year-old country music icon Dolly Parton took this meme to the next level after posting a grid of four photos of herself on Instagram with the captions “LinkedIn,” “Facebook,” “Instagram,” and “Tinder.” Although memes comparing different social media styles is not new, in the hours and days following, this meme has spread rapidly on Instagram, Twitter, and beyond, becoming known as the Dolly Parton Challenge.
Variations of this meme play with the concept of how one person may present themselves in a myriad of ways, depending on the social media platform they’re using. For example, one might like to look professional on LinkedIn, surrounded by friends and family on Facebook, fun and pretty on Instagram, and flirty or sexy on Tinder.
Celebrities including Oprah, Miley Cyrus, Martha Stewart, and Diplo have already jumped on this trend, creating memes out of images of themselves in various situations. This challenge is also popular among stan accounts and pet accounts, highlighting different angles of TV characters, dogs, cats, inanimate objects, and more.
At the time of writing, over 4,700 posts on Instagram have been tagged with #DollyPartonChallange and was featured on Twitter as a trending hashtag.
