The Brief: Social media users are participating in the 30-day film challenge by posting about their favorite movies every day for 30 days based on a set of criteria.
Particularly popular on Instagram, the 30-Day Film Challenge, also known as the 30-Day Movie Challenge is popping off as participants share some of their favorite movies based on prompts like “the first film you remember watching” or “a film that makes you want to fall in love. Similar to the 30-Day Song Challenge, this template provides an opportunity for social media users to show off some of their favorite art for an entire month.
In mid-May 2020, filmmaker James Gunn started doing the challenge, posting about it on Instagram and Twitter.
At the time of writing, the hashtag #30DayFilmChallenge has been used for over 3,000 posts and #30DayMovieChallenge has been tagged in over 20,000 posts. Several templates associated with the trend are circulating, with the most popular one dating back to 2018.
