The Brief: Hotep memes are used to share or respond to humorous conspiracy tweets, indicate a higher level of thinking, or a means of mocking toxic male behavior.
Hotep memes take popular celebrities and cartoons and Photoshop them into attire made of Kente cloth and jewelry shaped in African symbols.
Hotep is a slang word referring to men who are pro-Black, but also sexist and homophobic. They think their way of thinking is superior, all the while believing in illogical conspiracy theories.
Hotep memes usually accompany a tweet about an outlandish or humorous conspiracy theory, a response to indicate a higher level of thinking, or a means of mocking toxic male behavior. Memes sometimes depict glowing eyes which indicate an individual is at an elevated level of thinking.
These memes are used in large part by the Black community as a running joke about Hotep culture.
