The trend grew in popularity around May 12. At the time of publication, there are over 39 million views linked to the associated hashtag #WipeItDown and 34 million views. There are over 2500 videos linked to the audio.
Some creators have put their own creative twist on the trend, transitioning themselves into comic book characters and celebrities. Popular creator @RichBlackGuy’s video saw him transform into Black Panther’s nemesis, Killmonger. The video captioned. “When you remembered something petty your cousin did,” received over732,000 views and 105,000 likes after it was posted on May 12.
User @IamLaurenCompton’s #WipeItDown video saw her transition into Harley Quinn. She received over 1.4 million likes and 8.6 million views on her video.
