The Brief: Social media users are sharing environmentally conscious posts with #EarthHour because the hashtag is a worldwide initiative that is intended to spread awareness and help conserve energy and Earth's natural resources.

DEEP DIVE
The “EarthHour hashtag” allows for social media users to get virtually involved through spreading environmental awareness when self-isolation is lawfully recommended. Especially, in times where human’s environmental impact on Earth has decreased momentarily because of the outdoor limitations caused by the coronavirus. Since 2007, efforts from the World Wide Fund for Nature have led to the creation of an annual #EarthHour where people across the globe are intended not to use electricity for an entire hour, this year’s event is taking place on March 28 from 8:30pm – 9:30pm, your local time.

On TikTok, Twitter, and Instagram, many people are sharing their awareness of conservational efforts, becoming more naturally conscious of their environment, as well as being more active and vocal about how Earth should be treated. Although the air pollution in Earth’s atmosphere is reduced, environmentalists are explaining how these positive effects on the planet are only temporary and will return dramatically once everyone can safely leave their homes.
Still, social media users are expanding their knowledge upon the environment in order to inspire others to do the same. This hashtag has accumulated over 500 million views on TikTok and is trending on Instagram and Twitter.
