TikTokers are performing the #PGrooveChallenge using the “In The Crowd” filter on TikTok, creating the viral #InTheCrowd challenge. The trend appeared on TikTok when user @cloutboyb uploaded a video of the #PGroove challenge (started by @pjhowardiv) being performed at a school while the crowd sang the lyrics to “Hit Yo Groove” by The video went viral, garnering over 2.2 million views and 343,000 likes on TikTok alone. By late-March, the video inspired the new #InTheCrowd challenge on TikTok.

The #PGroove dance was originally created by sixth grade math teacher PJ Howard IV (@pjhowardiv) at Oscar Smith Middle School in Chesapeake, Va. The dance was intended to promote positivity in school, according to local news source 10WAVY-TV.

The #PGroove challenge has since been performed in a number of TikTok videos set to the live recording of the middle school event paired with TikTok’s “In The Crowd” party filter, giving rise to the now-titled #InTheCrowd and #InTheCrowdChallenge on TikTok. The audio has also been used in over 205,000 videos.
