The Brief: October 11 is International Day of the Girl, a celebration of girls around the world, with an emphasis on their value and achievments as well as programs and policies to continue their empowerment.

DEEP DIVE
This year, on October 11, International Day of the Girl is being celebrated worldwide. International Day of the Girl, or as it’s known in some countries, International Day of the Girl Child is dedicated to empowering, supporting, and speaking up for girls around the world. In 2012, the UN designated October 11th as a day that “aims to highlight and address the needs and challenges girls face, while promoting girls’ empowerment and the fulfillment of their human rights.”
Day Of The Girl 2019
It’s the 25-year anniversary of the Beijing for the World Conference on Women, which led to the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action and the passage of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, which specifically laid out specific policies for the empowerment of women and girls. The theme for this year’s International Day of the Girl is “GirlForce: unscripted and unstoppable,” wherein the accomplishments and achievements of girls in the past 25 years will be highlighted and celebrated.
