White Clawing is a new dating term that refers to the trend of exclusively dating someone for their looks, in spite of their lack luster personality. The name is derived from White Claws, the popular hard seltzer which is known for looking appealing on the surface, but tasting rather bland to some.
The trend is quite popular. Dating app Plenty Of Fish found at least 27% of singles have done this, according to their 2019 survey of 1,000 app users between the ages of 18 and 50.
42% of those surveyed also revealed they know someone who has white clawed before.
