DEEP DIVE

Deep Reels is a sub-culture of Instagram reels. It is characterized by the same qualities found on Deep TikTok (DeepTok), a sub-genre of Alt/Elite TikTok. These videos consist of weird footage that is intended to be unsettling. Typically, these videos are distorted and deep-fried. They feature dancing animals or dolls.

Reels is a new feature on Instagram and the “sides” of it are yet to be seen and explored further. At this time, many videos shared on Reels were previously created on TikTok.
