The Brief: Crip walking, also known as C-Walking refers to a dance move created by members of the Crip gang.

Crip walking or C-Walking is a footwork-based dance move that was allegedly developed by the Crips in Compton, CA in the 1970’s. The move traditionally spells the word C-R-I-P, but can also be used to spell out other names including that of rival gang the Bloods, which is then crossed out to show disrespect.

Although the Crip Walk is specifically associated with the Crip gang, it has entered the mainstream and is frequently performed by people outside of the gang.  Recently, this move has spread on TikTok via dance tutorials.
