The Brief: Black Twitter refers to a black-centered community within the social network Twitter.

DEEP DIVE
Black Twitter is a virtual space in which black people use the platform to talk about culture, politics, and anything else. It is the convening of black celebrities, intellectuals, and other individuals to discuss anything from activism to black celebrities to the minutiae of everyday life. There is no official Black Twitter, but some posts may be tagged #BlackTwitter.
Black Twitter is a source of comedic content and a powerful force of change. Much discourse about and organizing for the Black Lives Matter movement takes place on Black Twitter. It is known for its callout of racist comments online, as well as the larger systems of institutional racism from which such comments stem. Through Black Twitter, black people can discuss what is important to them in a national and global online community.
