The Brief: An aimbot is a software tool that allows gamers to shoot their targets without the need to aim, giving them an unfair advantage.

Aimbots are used to cheat in video games, specifically in online shooters such as Fortnite, Overwatch, and Call of Duty. Most recently, FaZe Jarvis, YouTuber and member of FaZe Clan, was permanently banned from Fortnite for using an aimbot.

Although Jarvis claims to have only used the hack in non-competitive versions of Fortnite, the game’s creators asserted their zero-tolerance policy on the exploit, stating “When people use aimbots or other cheat technologies to gain an unfair advantage, they ruin games for people who are playing fairly.”

In response to the permanent ban, FaZe Jarvis apologized on Twitter and in a tearful YouTube video, which has racked up nearly 9 million views in under a week.
