The Brief: The term "sky daddy" is a disparaging name for God.

DEEP DIVE
“Sky daddy” is used to make fun of people for their faith in the singular God of Abrahamic religions (Judaism, Christianity, and Islam). It usually references depictions of a Christian God as a white, bearded man in the sky.
The term started trending on Twitter on December 1st, 2020 after a TikTok video surfaced where an abortion clinic escort tells an anti-abortion protestor “so go off, Jennifer, is the validation you want from Sky Daddy?”

This phrase didn’t originate from the TikTok video, however. It’s been in circulation for years and its origin has been attributed to Black culture.

Religious people and devout Christians, in particular, have expressed their dismay over the use of this blasphemous term. “Sky daddy” can is used both to highlight the harmful behaviors people justify with religion, and to make fun of people simply for believing in God.
