According to an essay by the now Vice President Kamala Harris published in Elle magazine in 2019, Harris’s stepchildren Cole and Ella Emhoff came up with the name “Momala.” It’s now included in Harris’s Twitter bio.

As the Momala title becomes more widespread and well-known some people are adopting it to refer to the Vice President as a term of endearment.
