The term hodler or hodl originated from a 2013 post to the online Bitcoin Talk forum where someone misspelled the word “holding” as “hodling.” Since then, members of online investing forums and communities use variations of “hodl” as replacements for hold when referring to someone holding onto a cryptocurrency or stock.
