r/askreddit describes itself as “the place to ask and answer thought-provoking questions.” On this forum, users can ask questions ranging from random musings to political quandaries to general advice.

The questions posed are often hypothetical and generally lighthearted. Rules of the subreddit require that only open-ended questions are asked and prohibit questions for personal or professional advice, as well as “loaded questions.” Some questions deal with explicit topics and are labeled NSFW.

Ask Reddit has over 24 million subscribers. It is the largest and most broad question-based community on Reddit. There are also many specific subreddits for different types of questions such as r/explainlikeimfive, r/whatplantisthis, and r/relationships.
